July’s first Newbie Tuesday ride is going to revisit our friends Blazing Saddles at their new showroom up Cragg Vale. Stringing together some quaint bridleways across the plateau to Soyland we drop down to Ripponden before passing below Great Mans Head back to base. A total of around 10 miles with a few climbs to get the legs working and a few descents to get the heart pumping - Nothing that can’t be ridden easily at sensible speeds though!
For anyone not sure if this is for them please be assured that there is no pressure to ride any faster than you are comfortable doing, if you feel the need to walk any/all of the climbs that’s fine too. The routes are chosen as much as possible to avoid any trail features that can’t be ridden by the majority of novice riders yet can still bring a smile to the face of the hardened pros… Everyone who’s attended so far has been really nice, oh, and we have jelly babies!
As ever, the ride is led by our Qualified, Insured and First Aid trained MTB leader and the route has been pre-ridden to ensure quality and safety. Spaces are limited so please book in advance to avoid disappointment - The cost is just £10 per person. Meet at 17:45 for a 18:00 set off, parking available at the Craggs Business Park.

Newbie Tuesday - A new series of shorter local rides designed to help those new or returning to MTB to get out and get riding. The pace will be easy going and the vibe social - it’ll be all about meeting folks, getting to know the trails and building confidence with chance to chat and get input on riding technique, equipment, bike setup and trailside repair… Come along for one ride or join them all, it’s up to you!

If you like marching up to the top of the hill and down again this might be for you!!
Rob came to us recently asking for our help in raising funds for a charity close to his heart.
He was excited by the location of our new premises at Cragg Vale Business Park because of its proximity to our good neighbours Craggies Cafe and the wonderful hills and valleys on our doorstep.
He brought us the idea of a “grand old duke challenge” using us as a charity hub from which people can go and play out on the tops whilst helping others at the same time.
Rob set himself a triathlon challenge including biking the Cragg Vale climb, swimming Gaddings dam and running up and down Stoodley Pike.
We loved his idea and are more than happy to support his efforts.
We have specially commissioned 100 “grand old duke” water bottles and will give them out for free to anyone donating £5 to his charity. What’s more Craggies Cafe are on board too and will give you a free tea/coffee too to reward your generosity.
We hope that you will set yourself a challenge from our centre and go out and explore the foothpaths and bridleways that crisscross the South Pennines right on our doorstep. Our friendly staff have lots of challenging ideas to suit all abilities, ages and interests and will put you on the right track whether you want to walk, bike, run , wander or ramble. Please help
us to help Rob to keep the kettle boiling by supporting his grand old duke
challenge.
We are having a bit of a do on Saturday 9th July to get things moving so please come along, but if you can’t make it then you can roll up anytime and have a go at whatever you fancy.
