This is possibly the toughest road climb in Calderdale and it only has an average gradient of 6.7%. Don’t let that fool you as the maximum gradient reaches 24.6% and the first sections known as Mytholm Steeps are super steep and twisty. The climb gets easier after a mile of this 2.1 mile stretch of road and views on the upper sections across to Stoodley Pike monument provide a reward for your earlier efforts. Ride this climb on any bike and you should be proud of your efforts. Climb status very hard (Double Black) and (Cat 3).
Very Hard – Double Black
A Very Hard – Double Black climb will feature super technical difficulty and really challenge amateur and profession cyclists alike. Climbs of this nature are likely to have an average gradient over 10% and sections over 15% gradient make these climbs seriously tough. Calderdale has a number of road and mountain bike climbs that sit in this category.
